Tiger Woods Records Largest Single Payday

Tiger Woods won the 2007 TOUR Championship, the second time he has won the event and won the inaugural FedEx Cup.

The two wins in one day may have been the biggest solo day payout. He won $1.26 million for the TOUR event and won $10 million in a 20 year annuity for the FedEx Cup. You have to believe that amount of money would even impress Tiger.

The $10 million prize is thought to be the largest solo payday. Adding in the $1.26 million actually boggles an ordinary person's mind. To put that into perspective, the USA Census Bureau says that a high school graduate will earn $1.2 million in their lifetime .. a person with a bachelor's degree will earn $2.1 million ... a person with a masters degree will earn $2.5 million .. finally, a person with a doctoral degree will earn $3.4 million in their lifetime.

Woods earned in one day more than three times what a person with a doctoral degree will earn in their entire life.

He has won 7 events this year and is 1, 1, 2, 1 and 1 in his last five events.

Woods is looking forward to taking a break. He plans to help his wife, Elin, raise their daughter, Sam. He said in interviews that he plans to put his clubs down for awhile and just spend time with his family on his boat.

Woods has best start since 2000

The FedEx Cup isn't over, but, realistically, it is probably over.

Tiger Woods shot a 28 on the front nine, the lowest score he has had in his career on nine holes. His play included 6 birdies and an eagle. He finished the day with a 7-under 63 and a three shot lead.

Woods is 13 under for the tournament which is his best start since the Firestone in 2000.

Golf Made Easy

Here is one of my favorite YouTube golf videos, which clearly illustrates how to make a simple, powerful golf swing. J.C. Anderson's catch at the end is impressive to say the least...

Most Impressive Weekend: Woods or Federer?

Tiger Woods flat out showed why he is the best player in golf on Sunday at the BMW Championship when he fired a final round 63. His performance truly was unparalleled, as he found himself two strokes back after the tenth hole and two strokes ahead walking off the 18th green.

Setting the BMW Championship's record by five strokes and leaving the Tour's hottest players in the dust, it is hard to believe any other athlete could have had a better weekend.

However, fellow Nike superstar Roger Federer lit up the tennis court to capture his fourth US Open title. Federer and Woods have become close friends as the undisputed champions of their sports. With two great performances, who had the better weekend in your opinion?

The Final FedEx Cup 30

The $10 million annuity offered at the end of the FedEx Cup is the largest monetary prize in sports history and it's now down to the final 30 players. Although, realistically, only five players have a chance at it: Tiger Woods, Steve Stricker, Phil Mickelson, Rory Sabbatini and KJ Choi. Each of them will make at least $1 million.

A total of $35 million will be distributed to the 144 players who made the playoffs.

Tiger Woods Has Winning Day

Tiger Woods may have sat out the first FedEx Cup event, but after three tournaments he finds himself as the golfer to beat.

He shot a 63 in the final round of the BMW to win the event by two strokes over Aaron Baddeley. It was the 60th win of his career. He took home a check for $1.26 million which brings his tournament earnings to over $75 million.

The final FedEx Cup event will be next weekend in Atlanta at the Tour Championship and will feature only the top 30 players.

Mickelson Pulls Out of FedEx Event

Phil Mickelson, who won the Deutsch Bank Championship, and is #1 in FedEx Cup points will NOT play in the third FedEx event, the BMW Championship.

Mickelson was rather cryptic in his reason why, stating, "My frustration from this past year came from asking for a couple of things in the FedEx Cup that weren't done and not really feeling all that bad now if I happen to miss [an event]."

Many have speculated that players are frustrated that the prize is $10 million in retirement funds as opposed to actually a cash paycheck. Noone knows if that is what has frustrated Mickelson.

He did offer that he will play in Atlanta, the final event for the top 30 players.

Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2008

The newest installment of "Tiger Woods PGA Tour" was released on eight consoles on August 28th. With new and improved features, such as the ability to post scores and stats to EA Sports' GameNet, the new game will likely be another hit. Another new feature is the "Confidence Meter," which will effect the way the video game player hits each shot based on past experiences.

EA Sports has launched another aggressive marketing campaign across golf websites and even YouTube. Here, Tiger gets schooled over the Internet about how to really launch one:

This year's lineup of professional players includes:
Tiger Woods
Vijay Singh
John Daly
Jim Furyk
Chris DiMarco
Luke Donald
Colin Montgomerie
Ian Poulter
Justin Rose
Adam Scott
Mike Weir
Michael Campbell
J.B. Holmes
Paul Casey
Camilo Villegas
Retief Goosen
Annika Sorenstam
Natalie Gulbis
Christie Kerr
Morgan Pressel
Paula Creamer

If you have the new game, or have got a chance to play it, what do you think so far?

Badds, Weir, and Beem share lead at Deutsche

Despite Rich Beem and Mike Weir entering the Deutsche Bank at 113th and 88th in FedEx Cup point respectively, nothing held the two back from firing low scores on Friday. Beem, the 2002 PGA Championship winner, and Weir, the 2003 Masters champion, finished Friday at 9 under par for 36 holes at the TPC of Boston (left). The two major champions found themselves tied with Aaron Baddeley, and ahead of Vijay Singh, Tiger Woods, and Phil Mickelson.

However, Phil Mickelson and Tiger Woods are back in contention with stellar Friday rounds, which both paled in comparison to the mediocre starts on Thursday. Woods followed his opening 72 with the day's low score, 64. Tiger is now in 13th, only three strokes behind Baddeley (right) , Weir, and Beem. Also tying the day's low, Phil Mickelson followed his 70 with a 64 to finish in fourth, 1 stroke behind the leaders.

Also tied for fourth, U.S. Amateur Champion Ryan Moore and PLAYERS Runner-Up Sean O'Hair sit at 8 under after 36.

Camilo Villegas, the first round leader, followed a magnificent 63 with a highly disappointing 72.

While Weir and Beem both needed a miracle to make next week's field of 70 players, the two are both projected to leap into the next playoff event.

Mighty Threesome Fail to Impress

The crowds at the Deutsche Bank Championship cared only about one threesome: Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson and Vijay Singh.

They have played together only one other time which was two years ago at the PGA Grand Slam of Golf. But the awesome threesome failed to capitalize. As Woods said at the press conference, "I think we all felt like we left some shots out there."

Singh four-putted on the first hole. Woods had a triple bogey. Mickelson finished the day in 43rd place.

Who did play well?? Camilo Villegas. He finished the day two strokes in the lead. He had a 63, the best score of his career. Villegas has never won a PGA event; however, he has finished in the top three seven times. The 25 year old Columbian played golf for the Florida Gators and turned pro in 2004. Mike Weir and Ryan Moore are tied for second with a 65.
