Henrik Stenson is First Round Leader at Sun City, South Africa
Shooting a 5-under 67, Henrik Stenson
is the first round leader at the Nedbank Golf Challenge at the Gary Player Country Club in Sun City, South Africa. He was leading by one stroke over defending champ, Jim Furyk.
Stenson changed sponsors only one week ago and was using new clubs and balls for the first time in tournament play. Evidently, they work well, because Stenson had five birdies today and no bogeys.
Furyk played similarly with four birdies and no bogeys.
The event pays an astounding $1,200,000 for a first place finish. $600,000 goes to the second place finisher. Even the player finishing in the 12th spot, will pick up $200,000. This is the 26th year the tournament has been played.
