Next Up: 2007 Buick Invitational

A strong field will hit the links in San Diego at the Buick Invitational. TV should also have a lot of interest as Tiger looks for his seventh consecutive PGA Tour win. Tiger will take Torrey Pines seriously for several reasons.

For one, Tiger has some history at this course having played his first tournament at Torrey Pines when he was only 12. Whether or not that helps him to have fond memories, he has never finished worse than 10th on this course in six starts.

Torrey Pines will attract many strong players as the U.S. Open will be headed to San Diego in 2008, so a little early practice never hurts.

Aside from Tiger, Lefty will also be in this week's field. A lackluster start of the 2007 season left golf fans wondering if Phil Mickelson has what it takes to be the Phil of early last season. A 45th place finish in a weak field doesn't scream top 5 world rank, but Phil was coming off a long offseason.

Hopefully, Lefty, or another exciting golfer, will be able to stick in it with Tiger as he tends to pull out his big guns when it counts. Two years ago, John Daly played in a great playoff with Tiger when two well liked characters battled it out. Daly has not been competitive since that event.
