Ames hit a three foot birdie putt on the third hole of playoff to close out Fred Couples and John Daly. Fred Funk, who won over $925,000 last season despite wearing a skirt, was closed out early and was not able to capture any skins. Ames had been out of the game for several weeks after suffering from a back injury and declined his invitation to play in the Tour Championship for that reason.

Ames won $590,000 with Fred Couples capturing a second place check worth $385,000. John Daly won a single skin good for $25,000. Both Fred Funk and Freddie Couples were eliminated on the second playoff hole where both Daly and Ames made birdie while Ames would seize the final skin and the victory.
