Nationwide Tour Championship: Round 2

The second round of the Nationwide Tour Championship both ended the dreams of many aspiring pros and helped to make their dream come true. One of the most memorable performances this week is that of Brant Snedeker.

Snedeker's first round on Thursday included an amazing finish which utilized all the luck Snedeker could find. On the 17th, a par 3 surrounded by water, Snedeker's tee shot flew way left onto a slope leading into water. The ball flew into the slope hard, and almost guaranteed Snedeker would take a penalty. At the last moment, the ball hit a small sign near the water which was misplaced by Matt Kuchar, sending the ball back away from trouble. Snedeker followed that stroke of luck with a good pitch and sinking the putt for par. On the hard par four 18th, a magnificent finishing hole, Snedker left his ball in the left rough near the green. Snedeker continued his luck with a chip-in birdie to shoot a four under 68.

Johnson Wagner finished near the top of the leader board after shooting a 5 under 67 on Friday. Johnson is second on the Tour's money list behind Ken Duke. Johnson would take the top spot on the Tour's money list by winning. The importance of the first spot on he Nationwide Tour is a full TOUR Card and a spot in the PLAYERS Championship. Duke, the current number one, improved his chances at holding on by shooting another 2 under par round to move to four under.

Jess Daley, who occupies the 22nd spot on the money list, likely has blown his chances at moving up next year after shooting 73 to follow a 75. The 22nd spot will be the final TOUR Card given out, and Daley now needs a spectacular finish to stop his bubble from bursting. Daley can't be too sad though as he began the year as a non-exempt Nationwide Tour player. Daley, as well as all other players in the Tour Championship, earn fully exempt Nationwide Tour cards.

The field is led by Chris Baryla who fired a 6 under round to move into first place. Baryla is in 60th place on the money list and needs to win to make his way onto the PGA Tour next season. Baryla is followed closely by Matt Kuchar, a Georgia Tech graduate, who shot a 7 under 65 to move to second place.
