AP gives Tiger male athlete of the year honor

Tiger Woods was named male athlete of the year by the Associated Press by narrowly defeating San Diego Chargers' running back Ladanian Tomlinson. Woods earned his fourth athlete of the year honor to tie cyclist Lance Armstrong. Armstrong, who won 7 Tour de France titles, won the award the last four years to set the bar.


Woods received 260 points via the AP's voting system while Ladanian Tomlinson received 230. Tennis star Roger Federer, a friend of Tiger, came in third place wit 110 points.

Tiger's season was highlighted by two victories in major championships as well as holding an impressive winning streak.
