Nike publishes press release on SUMO drivers
With almost two months left until the release of the new Nike square-headed drivers, the facts are finally in. The Deep Rough has Nike's entire press release, but little new information was released.
As expected, the SUMO and SUMO² drivers will be square in shape, playing off the USGA's only shape rule saying a head must be "plain in shape." The square shape maximizes the driver's center of gravity to produce a more forgiving club. The SUMO² will have the greatest moment of inertia of any driver ever created. The SUMO and SUMO² will hit stores on February 1st, 2007 and will cost $359.99 (SUMO) and $479.99 (SUMO²).
Surprisingly, the SUMO²'s first victory was not in the hands of Tiger Woods, but K.J. Choi in late 2006 at the Chrysler.
