Wie is on her way to the LPGA Tour...again
Michelle Wie competed in her first stage of LPGA Qualifying School on Friday. The 18 year old golfer took fourth place with ease after firing a solid 1 under par round of 71 in Rancho Mirage, California.
Wie finished at 8 under for 72 holes, which placed her well ahead of the 30th place mark necessary for advancement into the second stafe of Q-School.
Of course, competing in the first stage of LPGA Q-School is likely a humbling experience for any formerly successful female golfer. Unlike other events where Wie is still followed by large crowds and swarms of reporters, Q-School is a closed event. Wie said, "When I came the first time [this week], I didn't know where anything was because I was so used to everything being here by the grandstands. Sometimes you play in big crowd and sometimes you don't. The game's the same, the goal's still the same, the opportunity still's the same. I just try to play my game."
