Honda Classic: A Preview
After an extremely exciting golf weekend, the Honda Classic may come up short in the eyes of many golf fans. A World Golf Championship using a match play system is hard to beat normally. When such a tournament is publicized as the glorious return of golf's greatest star, most tournaments are a letdown by comparison.
Nevertheless, the Honda Classic will feature some interesting storylines.
Most importantly, Davis Love III's mission to return to the Masters will continue this week at the Honda. Love is currently ranked 53rd in the World Golf Rankings, and needs to make a run this week to get inside the top fifty in order to return to Augusta.
Ernie Els may get an opportunity to end his slump this week. Though not the highest ranked player by FedEx Cup points, the "Big Easy" is almost certainly the most notable in the field. With a less than stellar pool, Els may have his chance to shine and jumpstart his 2009 campaign.
Golf historians may recall former world number one, David Duval (pictured top-right). Duval will return to prof
essional golf (as he does from time to time). So far this year, Duval has made the cut twice in his four events, but looks to improve from his mediocre weekend rounds.
Hawaiian (former?) phenomenon Tadd Fujikawa will be in the field. Though Fujikawa has made a PGA Tour cut in the past, his success on the mainland (and since turning professional) has been extremely limited.
