LPGA Tour reaches new low

Once again, things are not looking good for the LPGA Tour. The Tour released their 2010 schedule and announced only 24 tournaments.

With stagnant public interest and the economic troubles of many ex-tournament sponsors, the exodus of tournaments has been the trend for the LPGA Tour over the past two years.

For a Tour looking to establish itself as a competitor to the PGA Tour for sponsors and television coverage, this news does not bode well for the future.

In fact, a 24 tournament schedule will give the 2010 season the lowest number of events of any LPGA Tour season in the past 40 years.

Additionally, experts believe we will see substantially lower purses with the remaining tournaments when prize money is announced.

Despite the weak economic conditions, the LPGA Tour needs to turn things around very quickly in order to continue improving the ladies' game.
